Divyam Ramji Mehrotra is a gifted wedding photographer whose passion for photography and innovation has earned him recognition and admiration in the industry. Born and raised in Kanpur, Divyam’s journey as a photographer began in his school days when he got his hands on a Sony 6 Megapixel camera. Since then, he has honed his skills, delved into the world of visual effects, and emerged as a storyteller through his lens.
As his photography gained appreciation on social media platforms, Divyam Ramji Mehrotra realized the need for a dedicated team to meet the increasing demand for his services. This led to the inception of Weddingrams by Kreatrix. Inspired by the concept of telegrams and the significance of capturing wedding memories, the name perfectly resonates with Divyam’s artistic vision.
Today, in this session of ConflatingVisions, we have with us the talented wedding photographer Divyam Ramji Mehrotra, the proud founder of Weddingrams by Kreatrix. In this candid conversation, Divyam shares his inspiring journey with our readers.
Divyam sounds quite nice, what is the meaning of your name and how do you relate yourself with your name?
My grandfather was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. We had at least one puja per week at our home. So he named all my siblings taking reference from the books he read about him. We are 6 cousins and all of us have similar names: Nityam, Divyam, Priyam… (all sound similar too).
They are a few of the names associated with God. Divyam means ‘the touch of god’.
Say some lines about you.
I have done Masters in Visual Effects, and I have been working as a video editor for various Multinational companies. You can even tag me as a storyteller as I always look up to life as stories crafted. Friends call me work-a-holic because now I click on their weddings too.
Where is your home?
I am born and brought up in Kanpur. Now I am in Gurgaon for the past six years.
We saw the incredible photography works of Divyam Ramji Mehrotra. They are all stunning. What is the inspiration behind creating those beauties?
First of all, thank you for your appreciation! This makes me persevere and aim to achieve more. I have always believed in innovation and that helps me in creating pictures different from the previous ones always.
As Steve Jobs said “Look upon your competitors, not for doing better than them, but doing differently than them”
I want to get some recognition in the industry and that’s what mainly pushes me to create something new every single time.
Do have a look at our “3d wedding” video. It is one of a kind!
Who introduced you to the world of photography?
Photography has been my passion since I got my first camera in class ninth, the Epic Sony 6 Megapixel. I was the most popular boy in the class carrying that with me. But it was my dad who inspired me the most to do something major in this field. I still look at the pictures he clicked when he was young and had time for his hobby.
Divyam, we would like to know some words about your photographic journey so far. Which genre attracts you the most and why?
It has been a beautiful journey. I was a movie editor first and even now love to edit whenever I get some time. But gradually my photography started getting appreciation on various platforms on social media, and since then I decided to devote more time to it. I tried various genres, people and expressions were the ones that interested me the most. “I cannot imagine a picture without a person in it.”
So, a wedding was one of the best places to click both the genres I loved and yes it has always given me what I expected. Each wedding brings up something new and refreshing for me.
Have you done any coursework on photography?
No, not technically, but yes there are certain people who I look up to for their great work in this field. I try to learn from their work.
Tell us about Weddingrams by Kreatrix.
I started working as an individual and took up candid photography work in weddings, but with time it demanded a whole team and for a broader picture – a company. That time Weddingrams came in live.
As in telegrams, GRAMS is referred to memories, and Weddingrams means Wedding Memories.
What invoked you to take up wedding photography as your profession?
Love for photography, love for clicking people and capturing emotions. This is one place that could provide me with all three. And yes, making your hobby a profession is the best deal in life. I love what I do.
What are the major challenges you face in photographing weddings?
Wedding photography is fun overall. We meet new people and there is happiness all around. But the same thing is a challenge for us, to tackle with various kinds of people. You always have to be smiling even while dealing with the worst of the moments.
Your idea of a perfect wedding photograph.
A photograph without a story is worthless, it should speak for itself. A person looking at the picture should know exactly what would have been going on in real-time. That’s why our main aim is to capture memories.
A dream place where you want to shoot a wedding…
Many of them, but yes favourite would be Santorini, Greece.
What are the photography gears you presently possess?
Mostly we work on Canon cameras, 5d Mark III and a couple of lenses are the basic elements of my kit.
Which tools do you use for processing your images?
Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.
How is Divyam Ramji Mehrotra different from any other wedding photographer?
This one is my favourite question on the board. For me, innovation is the key to progress and being different from the rest. I focus on what my client needs rather than what I can provide. That is what I call limitless!
And, the final question of this session Divyam, if you were given a chance to fulfil your one wish, what would it be?
Technology is one thing developing faster than anything else, I just wish to have it always upgraded for free.
